Joe Goode Annex - San Francisco

Pusaka Sunda is excited to be performing at a new venue, the Joe Goode Annex, at Project Artaud in San Francisco. The space allows for intimate seating that surrounds the gamelan and performers. Highlights of the performance include several compositions by our director and featured artist, Burhan Sukarma, including a premier of his new piece titled, Lengko. Pusaka Sunda has also been working on a recreation of the vocal chorus piece, Jungpung Kunang-kunang, recorded by E. Tjarmedi’s RRI Bandung degung group in 1972. Dancer Margot Lederer-Prado will join us to perform Gawil. Please join us for a wonderful evening of West Javanese music and dance.

The San Francisco Ethnic Dance Festival 2012

Gamelan Sekar Jaya & Pusaka Sunda share a performance at San Francisco's Cowell Theater to present new and traditional works for Balinese and Sundanese Gamelan, including a collaborative piece by Pak Burhan and Pak Dewa.
Gamelan Sekar Jaya will perform Bayangan Jiwa—A new work for dance, shadow, and the seven-tone gamelan semarandana, created by I Dewa Putu Berata and Emiko Saraswati Susilo, performed by the musicians and dancers of Gamelan Sekar Jaya. Bayangan Jiwa, meaning both “the spirit’s image” and “the imagination of the spirit,” investigates how the human spirit navigates the space between darkness and light, movement and stillness, and sound and silence.
The performance will be shared with Sundanese gamelan ensemble Pusaka Sunda, led by renowned artists Pak Burhan Sukarma and Rae Ann Stahl.
Suling bamboo flute virtuoso Pak Burhan Sukarma and his group, Pusaka Sunda, will perform traditional gamelan degung music, along with Pak Burhan's composition Gagak Lumayung, the lovely vocal piece Bulan Tumanggal, and the famous degung tune Sangkala. Margot Lederer Prado will perform traditional masked dance.

About the event: "The Indonesian American Community in Northern California and the Consulate General of the Republic of Indonesia, in cooperation with the City and County of San Francisco, invite you to join us for 18th Annual Indonesian Day on Saturday, July 23rd, 2011, from 10 am to 5 pm at Union Square, San Francisco.
Established in 1994, this event has become a foundation of cultural events in San Francisco. Giving Indonesians an outlet to celebrate proud heritage and at the same time, thrilling the local Bay Area with vibrant colors of Indonesian's Batik and Kebaya, inimitable sounds of Sasando, and luscious flavor of spicy grilled chicken, beef rendang, gado-gado, lemper, and martabak manis. This year theme's is "Indonesian Treasures" to present our country's rich cultural heritages. The Jazzschool - Berkeley

Suling bamboo flute virtuoso Burhan Sukarma and his 10-piece gamelan ensemble, Pusaka Sunda, return to the Jazzschool for a night of gamelan degung music and dance. Pusaka Sunda, which Burhan founded in 1986, provides a voice for Burhan’s own compositions as well as a means for promulgating the traditional music of West Java. All selections feature Burhan’s exquisite flute playing. Traditional dance performed by Margot Lederer.

11th Annual Music in the Gardens Tour
Sunday, May 30, 2010 from 1 to 5 pm ~ Santa Cruz area gardens
Put on by the Santa Cruz Baroque Festival, the tour features some of the area's finest private gardens, along with snacks, drinks, and wine. A variety of music groups complement the natural splendor and culinary selections with musical offerings spanning a range of folk and ethnic styles. This event is a fundraiser and proceeds benefit the continued operation of the Baroque Festival's annual concert season. Tickets are $30 ($25 for subscribers) and available through SCBF, the UCSC Ticket Office, the Civic Center Box Office, and various local garden and music stores.
Pusaka Sunda will be performing at one of the gardens from 2-4 pm.
